Cardiff's John still attracting interest from Colorado Rapids

Reigning MLS champions Colorado Rapids will not change their playing list too much this season although they are taking a look at English-born Canadian left-back Martin John.

The 22-year old has already been the subject of interest from the Denver club who have now been granted permission by Cardiff City to talk to the player.

Rapids boss Gary Smith admits that the club were looking at John when Danny Earls was competing with Anthony Wallace for the left full-back position but since Earls' departure, reveals they may again come in for the former Buffalo Bulls and Ottawa Fury man.

"We had just signed Anthony and we had Danny (when we first looked at John)," Smith said.

"I think, in terms of additional depth, this is an individual I would hope would be able to challenge for a spot. Physically and athletically, he fits what we are after."

John joined Cardiff in the summer of 2010 from Argentinos Juniors reserves. He has made nine appearances on loan for English Conference National side Newport County this season.
