Cardiff's Gunnarsson keen for West Ham target Whittingham to remain

Cardiff City midfielder Aron Gunnarsson hopes teammate Peter Whittingham does not depart the club this winter.

27-year old Whittingham, who has netted eight goals so far this term, is being linked with a January exit to Championship rivals West Ham United but midfield mate Gunnarsson is not too keen to see him leave.

"Peter comes into training with a smile on his face so I assume he's happy here. We are on a good run, I hardly think he would want to go. I think he's settled here and I don't think he wants to go," he told Wales Online.

"He would be a loss obviously. He's a great player and it would be sad to see him go, but I know for a fact the gaffer (Malky Mackay ) will try to keep hold of him.

"It's not long since he signed a new deal. It would be a big loss, but we are not thinking about that at the moment. I think he is happy here and I don't want to see him go."
