Cardiff City face surprise competition from Arsenal for Morelia winger Jefferson Montero.
The Sunday Mirror says Wenger has identified 24-year-old Montero as a last-minute back-up option.
Cardiff have been in negotiations with Montero and his Mexican club Morelia, but the Premier League new boys have been made aware of Arsenal's interest.
Montero has won 27 caps for Ecuador and played with Arsenal star Santi Cazorla at Villarreal before going on loan to Spanish rivals Levante and Real Betis.
He is predominantly a left winger, but can also be used as a striker.
