Stoke City have progressed to the fourth round of the Capital One Cup at the expense of Fulham.
Peter Crouch scored the only goal of a tense affair at Craven Cottage which gave Mark Hughes his first win at the venue since his bitter exit from the West London club back in 2011.
The goal came in the 33rd minute when Crouch played the ball to Peter Odemwingie only to see Ben Pringle's attempted interception fall nicely into his path, allowing the veteran striker to pick his spot and poke home past Joe Lewis.
There were chances for both sides throughout the second half, namely when Lewis come out to deny Odemwingie, and when Cottagers youngster Lasse Vigen Christensen's lobbed effort after a poor Shay Given clearance bounced just wide of the mark.
Nevertheless, the Potters will travel back to Staffordshire feeling a sense of contentment following a winless start to the Premier League season.
