England coach Fabio Capello hopes Newcastle United's Andy Carroll will act more responsibly now he has been called up to the international squad. The talented 21-year-old hit-man has gone from strength to strength this term after helping The Magpies win promotion last season.
However, he continues to be dogged by off-field issues and last month he admitted an assault change in which a glass struck a man above his right eye and he also accepted a police caution for an assault on a woman in 2008.
"I don't know him very well," said Capello. "I have to speak with him to know him. I will meet him, but he is young.
"English fans have to understand he is a young player. Everyone makes mistakes.
"I hope he will change. We have to help him. It will be really important for him to stay with the seniors.
"He only started to play last season and this season he has exploded. Now he is on fire. He is one for the future of England.
"I hope that his private life with be better. I hope it will improve."
