Former England coach Fabio Capello isn't surprised seeing Wayne Rooney impress in Manchester United's midfield.

Capello praised Rooney's versatility.

"Rooney can play in every position," he said. "He is a fantastic player. With me he played just behind the forward. It was really good because he had good vision of the situations.

"He chose always the best solution and also he scored goals."

Capello, currently in charge of the Russian national team, also supported Rooney's leadership skills.

"The captain you need to be an example on the pitch. It's a leader on the pitch and Rooney is a leader on the pitch," he said.
