Capello sees Man City keeper Hart as long-term England No1

England boss Fabio Capello sees Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart as the man to succeed Portsmouth's David James as the nation's long-term No1.

The Telegraph says Capello is aware of James' advancing years, and will seek to give Hart more experience, believing that the City youngster can mature into a commanding international keeper. The problem for Capello is that England have only one more friendly, the August date with the Czech Republic, before 2010 qualifying begins in September.

The Italian could give Hart his second cap in the Wembley game, but he will want to work on his first-choice XI to face Andorra and Croatia the following month.

England will also be watching how the highly-regarded Ben Foster fares at Manchester United next season. Foster's time at Old Trafford has been blighted by injury and the sustained excellence of Edwin van der Sar.
