England boss Fabio Capello has questioned the wisdom of Napoli entering the Intertoto Cup.

"It is always hazardous to start training so early in preparation for the new season," the England manager explained in Il Mattino.

"I understand that Napoli are an ambitious side and they are eager to return to the European stage, but this means having the sword of Damocles hanging over your head.

"Edy has a competent staff alongside him and they need to get everything right because the slightest mistake can have repercussions on the whole season.

"Unfortunately for him, I know that a long Serie A campaign will take its toll.

"You try your best to avoid a dip in form, but there will always be hard times and it's up to your star players to keep the team going."
