Capello: Man Utd defender Jones was born to play football

England coach Fabio Capello was delighted with the debut of Manchester United defender Phil Jones for their draw in Montenegro. Capello was full of praise for the teenager after handing him his full international debut in the 2-2 Euro 2012 qualifying draw in Montenegro on Friday night.

The usually understated England boss enthused: "Phil Jones is born to this.

"I think this absolutely. He is like Jack Wilshere. Talent is talent. You can't create talent, you are born with it.

"You can improve on what you have been given, but for me the No.2, Phil Jones, is a very good player now.

"Oh guys, this is really good news for me. The news in Montenegro should not have been about Wayne Rooney being sent off, it should have been about a really good young player who performed really well on his debut."

Jones, 19, who moved to Old Trafford from Blackburn in a £16million deal, showed his versatility after being asked to play at right-back by Capello.

He can also operate as a central defender or a holding midfielder.

And Capello has made it clear that Jones can expect to play in his favourite centre-half position when England face world champions Spain in a friendly at Wembley next month.

He added: "Jones played well against Montenegro. He played without fear, with a big personality, going forward and defending well.

"The next game will be interesting. We will see some players and maybe whether Phil Jones can play in central defence."
