Capello highlights Miretti, Iling: But Juventus showed no character nor fight

Former Juventus coach Fabio Capello says Max Allegri should be "sad" after defeat at Benfica.

Last night's 4-3 defeat sees Juve eliminated from the Champions League.

Capello said: "If I were in Allegri at the end of the game I would be sad for two reasons: the team did not play, they conceded everything. They dominated them. But those twenty minutes remain in my head, where Juventus was another.

"They had the ball for 4-4: it means that the desire is there but this is the great regret, so I would be a sad coach. Allegri missed the players on whom he had founded his team. They showed no character and determination. Even without these players they would have had to show that they were Juve.

"(Fabio) Miretti for me is one of the few Bianconeri players who goes vertically. Someone like him has to play.

"(Samuel) Iling, I didn't know him, but he also showed that he has quality and dribbling. Juve have players at home who can be ready for the future. They must all start again compact but I did not seem to see this spirit: in the changes there was someone who was not happy and it was seen.

"But Juve play under rhythm, even when they won they did it only for a higher quality than their opponents. The only cure may be victory, but it may not be enough."
