Campbell set to remain at Newcastle

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew confirmed that he would hold onto veteran defender Sol Campbell after reports of a potential departure.

The 36-year old has fallen out of favour at St James' Park in recent times and was believed to be favouring a return to Arsenal or a move to Scottish giants Celtic but Pardew insists the ex-England star will be staying in a Magpies shirt.

"I want to keep Sol. He is a giant figure in the game and players can learn from him - even if he does not get in the team," Pardew told the Sunday Sun.

"He has not been fit and he has not been available since he played against Liverpool, so it has been difficult.

"However, he has looked terrific in recent days."
