Gary Cahill expressed his delight at winning his first game for Crystal Palace.
Roy Hodsgon's men were not fancied when they went to Manchester United on Saturday. But they emerged from the game with a stunning 2-1 win.
And Cahill played his part in the defensive resilience that helped keep United at bay for significant portions of the encounter.
"It's been a long time coming and feels great to be back out there," Cahill said to reporters.
"There are going to be a lot more games in this league where you have more possession. It wasn't going to be one of them here. We dropped into a shape and worked very hard in that shape.
"We managed the game well in difficult moments and showed great desire. We rode the luck with the penalty.
"We showed that determination and it would've been easy to crumble at 1-1. To hit them on the break was great."
