Cahill admits he was lucky to play alongside Everton legends

Current day Everton star Tim Cahill has said that he learnt a lot playing with some of the legends of the club. The 31-year old Australian is fast-becoming a great in his own right with plenty of years of strong performances for the Merseysiders but admitted he benefited from sharing the pitch with some Goodison Park favourites.

"As players, we see what's going on, and we do share the same passion as the fans," he said.

"I've been here seven years and I was lucky to grow up with (Duncan) Ferguson, (Alan Stubbs) Stubbsy, (Lee) Carsley, (Kevin) Kilbane and (Gary) Naysmith.

"Every player that has left has always said 'I wish I didn't go as early as I did'."

Cahill has been out of action in recent weeks because of injury but says he is nearing full fitness as seventh-placed Everton prepare for their final five games of the season.

"The fitness is actually going quite well," he added.

"I've had a foot problem since after the Asia Cup, I played on with it for a bit.

"But hopefully I'll be back in the next couple of weeks with Mikel and a couple of the other lads to help fly the flag again."
