Gigi Cagni was delighted to mark his return to Empoli with a crucial victory over Torino on Sunday.

"It was as if I had never left," coach Cagni told Radio Anch'io Sport. "I have just started work again and everything is in the past.

"It wasn't a matter of revenge to beat Torino. I didn't even remember that they were the last game before I left the job. With my return I brought my experience and the players gave everything they had and had a little fortune.

"There is no bitterness and the lads have welcomed me well, but I never doubted that as my relationship was always good. I don't know what happened for my dismissal, but it was never a matter of the players not following my lead.

"I have returned to this job because I believe that I can lead this Empoli side to safety."
