Cagliari assistant coach Diego Sanchez has joined Ivo Pulga in a new-look coaching team.
He has been hired as an assistant manager to Pulga, but it is assumed Lopez is the de facto Coach.
"Pulga and I immediately got in sync, just like the rest of the staff," said former Cagliari player Lopez.
"We know the environment well and that can be an advantage. At the end of the day, results will make the difference and we hope to get straight back on track with confidence and decision.
"We've got to put great spirit of sacrifice and mental strength on to the field. We must never give up and that has to be our guiding principle.
"As for the system, Cagliari's tactical identity has been imprinted for many years now, so we certainly won't be revolutionising it.
"I hope to stay here for at least six years, just as I did during my playing career."
