Cagliari defender Godin: Conte didn't want me at Inter Milan

Cagliari defender Diego Godin says he's happy in Sardinia.

The Uruguay defender lasted just one season with Inter Mlan before moving to Cagliari last summer.

Antonio Conte told me he had a different idea," Godin told Canal 10.

“He had a project with younger players.

“I knew I'd need to play all the games to stay in shape for the national team, where I'm the captain, so the best thing was to change teams.

“I took the decision to leave Milan, therefore."

Godin has made 28 appearances in all competitions for Cagliari, who finally secured their Serie A status with two games to spare.

“They obviously have bigger ambitions than that, the president (Tommaso Giulini) wanted to finish in the top half," Godin admitted.

“I've learned a lot of things in Italy and my experience with Inter was important for my career."
