Burnley still winless but earn point against Cardiff

Burnley still find themselves at the wrong end of the table following a 1-1 draw with Cardiff at Turf Moor. Clarets boss Eddie Howe, though, chose to look on the bright side and cited notable improvement from his team.

"First half in particular we were excellent," he said. "We passed and moved the ball really well.

"We got the early goal which was a boost and we really thought we were going to go on and make it two or three, but we had a lapse of concentration and conceded the goal.

"Unfortunately that's been a factor of our play this season. We've not conceded a great amount of chances to teams - it just seems that every one they get they take.

"Then at the other end we have to create 10 or 12 to get a goal. That's just how it is for us at the moment.

"We do seem to be making it hard work for ourselves.

"But I am pleased with my players. They gave everything they had. In the second half we were the only team really trying to go on and win it, but we just could not break them down.

"The result is the only disappointing thing."

Cardiff boss Malky Mackay said: "It was very hard fought. After losing the goal so early I think we then showed the calmness not to panic and to stay patient and ease our way back into the game and I think we did that.

"We got the goal and it's a very welcome point for us because this is not going to be an easy place to come this season. I'm delighted with the point.

"We are disappointed with their goal because we didn't pick up in the box and we know the threat they pose, but after that to be fair I thought our guys put their bodies on the line every time the ball came into our box."
