Burnley's Duff wins red card appeal

Burnley's Michael Duff has won his appeal against a red card.

The veteran defender was sent off by referee Jon Moss in the 23rd minute the Clarets' 1-0 defeat to West Ham United at Upton Park on Saturday for a professional foul on Cheikhou Kouyate.

It was suggested that Duff had denied the Hammers a goalscoring opportunity inside the penalty area as the 'last man', which lead to Mark Noble's converted penalty.

Burnley contested the initial straight red card and the Football Association has found in their favour, saying: "An Independent Regulatory Commission has today upheld a claim of wrongful dismissal in relation to Michael Duff.

"The Burnley defender was dismissed in the game against West Ham United on Saturday 2 May 2015 for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity. Therefore, his one-match suspension has been withdrawn with immediate effect."

The decision means that Northern Irishman Duff will now be available for this weekend's do-or-die clash with Hull City.
