Burnley defender James Tarkowski is eager to join Newcastle United.

The Telegraph says Newcastle have been knocked back in their approach for one of their top targets, Lille defender Sven Botman.

However, Tarkowski 'wants to come' to St James' Park.

The Burnley centre back is out of contract in the summer, so whilst the Lancashire club would surely rather not sell to a relegation rival, they may be forced to do a deal or risk losing him for free in the summer.

Tarkowski is also on the radar of West Ham.
