Burnley have taken away their contract offer to former England ace Andros Townsend.
The winger, who last played for Everton last season, had been training with Burnley.
However, he does not appear to have done enough to earn a permanent stay.
Turf Moor manager Vincent Kompany said: “We initially made sure we had terms agreed with Andros - so we did offer him a deal.
“But it was pending on a couple of things mainly where the recruitment was going for us and also the recovery of some of the players that we had that were injured.
“So it was quite transparent in that sense.
“He was great for the dressing room but in terms of what we already had in the building and the players we also wanted to bring in, it didn't make sense for us to complete it."
