Burnley boss Dyche disappointed by Southampton loss but buoyed by survival hopes

Burnley manager Sean Dyche was not feeling too down following the defeat to Southampton due to the encouraging performance from his players.

The Clarets missed out on an opportunity to climb away from the relegation zone after suffering a 2-0 defeat to the Saints at the St. Mary's Stadium on Saturday.

Despite the disappointing nature of the defeat though, Dyche is not feeling sorry for himself. The 43-year old stated that he was encouraged by his side's showing against the Saints and stated his belief that such a performance should stand the Lancashire outfit in good stead ahead of the final eight fixtures.

Dyche said: "There has to be more than just the outcome of a performance, as in the score. It has to be what you are seeing and is it capable of moving forward.

"There are signs. We created really good chances. That can be hard enough to do in the Premier League. Let alone take chances and win. There are good signs. Our journey is a different one.

"It's only about remaining in the Premier League. Our challenge is to get enough points to do that."
