Bruce expects Birmingham transfer plans to accelerate

Steve Bruce has revealed Birmingham are in talks with several players as he bids to bring in "four or five more" signings this summer.

Blues have also been linked with Arsenal's Mathieu Flamini, Aston Villa's Liam Ridgewell, West Ham's Paul Konchesky, West Brom's Jason Koumas, Preston's David Nugent and Celta Vigo's Daniel De Ridder.

And Bruce insists he needs to capture a number of his targets in order to be ready for an assault on Premier League survival.

He told the Birmingham Mail: "It's been a busy summer so far, and it could get busier.

"We worked extremely hard to get back into the Premiership and that is where we want to stay. We're all delighted with the signings we've made so far and there are plenty of other irons in the fire.

"I still want possibly four or five more to come in to strengthen us, on top of what we have already got. When you analyse it, we lost four players after promotion: Nicklas Bendtner, Andy Cole, Bruno N'Gotty and the option on Julian Gray's contract was not taken up.

"Three of them were regulars in the side towards the back end of the season, so they had to be replaced straightaway.

"We're talking with one or two players and their clubs, so we will see what develops now we're looking forward to getting into the thick of things with pre-season training."
