Bristol City boss Gary Johnson has dismissed reports the Championship outfit is interested in former Celtic striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink. The 30-year-old was released by the Hoops at the end of last season and reports suggested Johnson could make an audacious move to bring him to Ashton Gate.

But the Robins boss told the club's official website: "The lad is a free agent but he's also played at a high level and has made big money doing that. He'd have to take a three-quarter wage drop to come here.

"The newspaper reports were the first we'd heard about any interest. There's nothing in that one at all, he wasn't on our radar."
