Adelaide United may have missed out on the signature of North Queensland Fury striker Robbie Fowler but have now been linked with Brisbane Roar's Sergio van Dijk.
The Reds are hoping to lure a quality striker to the club for the upcoming Asian Champions League campaign and van Dijk is the latest to be linked to the South Australians.
It is believed that they missed out on Fowler because he is still under contract with the Fury and the Townsville-based club feared they may lose him for good if they let him go on loan.
"Robbie Fowler is contracted to North Queensland Fury and will not be released to any club while under contract," a Fury spokesman said.
But Dutchman van Dijk, who has netted on 11 occasions this season, is out of contract soon and unlikely to return to the Roar next term so a short-term deal with Adelaide could occur before he moves permanently to either Sydney FC or new club Melbourne Heart in 2010/11.
