Brisbane's Oar calm over big wraps

Brisbane Roar winger Tommy Oar is remaining calm despite big wraps being placed on him.

The 17-year old Australian U20 international has come on in leaps and bounds at senior level in the A-League this season and as with all young players, the question of where to next will be asked.

Already there are comparisons being drawn with Socceroos star Harry Kewell which in the past has not worked out for those anointed with the title of 'the next Kewell'.

But Oar understands that his main focus must be to maintain a decent standard on the pitch and keep his feet grounded off it for the time being.

"Football is pretty unpredictable. Anything can happen. You can get an injury tomorrow and everything can turn on its head," Oar said.

"You just have to take things a week at a time. I'm not really looking too far ahead. First things first, I've got to try and help turn our season around.

"If things go well, I'll see what happens from there. All young players dream of playing in Europe and for the Socceroos. I'm no different."

Oar admits his personal confidence is high at the moment and wants to try and translate that into results for the Roar, who despite beating the Wellington Phoenix 4-1 on the weekend, have been in less than satisfactory form recently.

"I'm pretty confident at the moment. Going away with the Under 20 national team helps a lot. Just having a different environment and exposing you to different types of football, it's good for your skills. When you come back from those trips, you always feel pretty sharp," Oar added.

"If I look back at the start of the season, I didn't really know what to expect. I was given an opportunity pretty early on and hopefully I can keep contributing to the team. I hope we can start to get a few more wins."
