Brisbane's DeVere signs contract extension

Brisbane Roar defender Luke DeVere has signed a three-year contract extension with the club.

The 20-year old has committed his future to the club despite attracting interest from other clubs around Australia and Roar coach Ange Postecoglou was delighted to have secured the centre-half who scored in the 1-1 draw with Perth Glory on the weekend.

"This is the first step in building a better Roar not just for next year but the next few years," Postecoglou said.

"Luke's exactly the kind of player we want here. He's ambitious and he's obviously done well so far but he wants to get better and he's got big plans.

"He wants to be the very best and we want to provide an environment that helps him do that."

The former Young Socceroo who came through the Australian Institute of Sport said he was happy to repay the faith the club had shown in him.

"They (the Roar) are the ones who gave me the opportunity to begin with and I'd like to repay the favour, stay here for a few years and hopefully try to build something," the Melbourne-born DeVere said.

"I think the club has got a lot of good talent here, there's a good squad and hopefully in the future we can do some good things."
