Brisbane Roar keen to silence big-talking Gold Coast

Brisbane Roar are keen to silence the big-talking Gold Coast United in the first round of A-League action this weekend.

Roar midfielder Michael Zullo says the club is keen to make life difficult for the new franchise in their first competitive match for premiership points at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday.

"With everything that's been said, we're very keen to beat them," the 20-year-old excitement machine said on Sunday at Roar's season launch at Roma Street Parkland.

"All the propaganda that's been thrown around about how well they're going to go this season . . . I just want to stamp our authority in the first game of the season and show our quality.

"It's going to be a personal battle."

Zullo has been battling swine flu and a shoulder injury this pre-season so is keen to get out on the park and help the Roar get the points.

"This one against the Coast is of great importance to me and the club, so I'm really trying to get back for it," he added.

"I'm not in a position to demand selection but I'm still hopeful of being in the squad."
