Brisbane Roar have appointed former state MP Chris Bombolas as their new chairman.

The 49-year old former sports reporter and politician has replaced John Ribot who vacated the role at the end of the 2007/08 A-League season.

Last season the club was chaired by CEO Lawrence Oudendyk but now that he too had departed the club, Bomboras has stepped in.

The announcement will be made official at lunch-time today at Ballymore.
