Brighton bring in Calderwood as assistant to boss Hughton

Championship Brighton have appointed Colin Calderwood as assistant to boss Chris Hughton. The 50-year-old former Scotland defender was previously assistant to Hughton at Newcastle United, Birmingham City and Norwich City.

"I know him well and we wanted to bring someone in of Colin's experience," Hughton told the club website.

"I know that he will work well with the existing coaching staff at the club and I think he'll be a very good addition."

Nathan Jones will remain at the Amex Stadium as first-team coach following Calderwood's arrival, with Antti Niemi, Joaquin Gomez, Adam Brett and Tom Barnden also part of Hughton's backroom staff.

"It was always my intention to bring somebody in to work alongside myself and Nathan," Hughton added.

"What I wanted to do is give myself some time to get to know the staff here; not only the coaching staff but also the backroom team, before finalising that decision."
