Bridges says don't expect too much from Newcastle Jets recruit Jeffers

Newcastle Jets captain Michael Bridges has warned fans to not heap too much pressure on guest signing Francis Jeffers.

The Jets have scored a dismal five goals in 10 matches so far this season and with players like Bridges, Jeremy Brockie and Ali Abbas to be sidelined, things are not looking all that bright from an attacking point of view.

Former Arsenal and Everton goalscorer Jeffers has been brought in for a 10-match spell, which kicks off on November 13, but Bridges was remaining realistic about his presence.

"It has been frustrating for everybody," Bridges told the Newcastle Herald. "Frannie has come over but you can't put too much pressure on him.

"You can't expect him to do miracles. He is a great player, but just because we signed him doesn't mean he is going to score a hat-trick every game.

"He will create chances for other people. He drops off and picks the ball up.

"He is great in and around the box, and is a true goal scorer, but it has to come from other members of the team as well."

Jeffers last played for Championship club Sheffield Wednesday in May so it is highly likely he will need time to settle with his new club, even though it is just a short stint.
