Bresciano confirms Saudi Arabia move not going ahead

Australian national team midfielder Mark Bresciano has confirmed he has not signed with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr.

Recent reports have suggested that the 30-year old had signed a deal after his contract with Italian club Palermo expired at the end of the recently completed season but he has said that the deal did not go ahead and that he is currently a free agent.

Bresciano also said that he was close to full fitness ahead of next month's World Cup following back surgery earlier this year.

"My fitness state is pretty good. I'm into full training now, I've done a lot of rehab, my back's fully fit and regarding the signing, it's not going ahead so I won't be going to Saudi Arabia," Bresciano said.

When quizzed on the next step in his playing career, the former Empoli and Parma man all but ruled out a return to Australia but said his main focus at the moment was on the world's biggest tournament in South Africa.

"Australia I'm not sure because I'd still like to play in Europe somewhere and have a couple more years there, I'm still nowhere because I'm a free agent so I just have to see what comes up but I just want to concentrate on getting myself fit and playing in the World Cup," he added.
