Brentford forward Maupay: Martinez owes me for World Cup!

Brentford forward Neal Maupay has aimed a cheeky swipe at rivals Aston Villa.

The two clubs played out an intense and fractious contest on Sunday in the Premier League.

Maupay found himself on the losing side, as Villa came from behind to win 2-1.

He was involved in an altercation with Emi Martinez at the final whistle, which some fans found ironic, as Maupay injuring then Arsenal keeper Bernd Leno a few years ago gave Martinez his big break at the Gunners.

Recently, Maupay told SPORTbible: “I got so many messages saying 'you basically won the World Cup'.

“Obviously, because Leno got injured in contact with me and then (Martinez) got to play and then play for Argentina blah blah.

“He should be grateful shouldn't he.

“It was so unfortunate that Leno got injured. I'm on very good terms with him now he's at Fulham. I never tried to hurt him."
