Brebner clear of serious injury for Melbourne Victory

Melbourne Victory's imposing 4-0 win against Gold Coast United last night has come at a cost, however midfielder Grant Brebner's ankle injury is not as serious as first feared, with X-rays clearing the Scotsman of any breaks. Ex-Hibs and Manchester United midfielder Brebner was stretchered from the field late in the first half and taken to hospital, where X-rays on his right ankle revealed only ligament damage.

Brebner will now undergo MRI scans to determine the severity of his injury, while Matthew Kemp (groin) and Evan Berger (hamstring) will also be assessed, but remain in doubt for Melbourne Victory's match against Wellington Phoenix at Westpac Stadium this Friday.

Kemp and Berger were both substituted in the second half after Archie Thompson netted his second and Melbourne Victory's fourth goal of the night in front of 20,537 fans at a rectangular Etihad Stadium.
