In Group F, Central Coast Mariners caused an upset when coming from behind to beat Japanese champions Sanfrecce Hiroshima 2-1 in Gosford, New South Wales.
Former Lille, FC Basel and Derby County forward Mile Sterjovski scored a quickfire double for the A-League side after Tsukasa Shiotani opened the scoring for Hiroshima.
In Group F in Japan, Chinese outfit Shandong Luneng got the better of Cerezo Osaka 3-1 courtesy of a double from Brazilian star Vagner Love.
The former CSKA Moscow and Flamengo ace struck in the 26th and 56th minutes - after Aloisio's earlier opener - before Yoichiro Kakitani pulled one back late for the J.League club.
Another Brazilian striker, Nilmar, also scored twice as Qatari side El Jaish edged Uzbek outfit Bunyodkor 2-1 in Tashkent in Group B.
Elsewhere, South Korea's Pohang Steelers defeated Thailand's Buriram United 2-1, Nigerian forward Peter Utaka scored in Beijing Guoan's 1-1 draw with FC Seoul, Iran's Foolad beat Saudi Arabia's Al Fateh 1-0 in Group B.
And in Group A, Al Rayyan got the better of Esteghlal 1-0 as UAE side Al-Jazira cruised past Al Shabab 3-1 in Riyadh.
Matchday 2 comes to a close on Wednesday night with another set of eight fixtures including: Melbourne Victory v Jeonbuk Hyundai, Yokohama F. Marinos v Guangzhou Evergrande, Ulsan Hyundai v Kawasaki Frontale, Guizhou Renhe v Western Sydney Wanderers, Sepahan v Al Hilal, Lekhwiya v Tractor Sazi, Al Ahli v Al Sadd and All Ittihad v Al Ain.
