Bothroyd: I rejected bigger clubs for QPR move

Jay Bothroyd admits he rejected bigger clubs to sign for QPR this summer.

The former Cardiff City striker signed for the Rs on a Bosman.

Bothroyd, whose side kick-off their top-flight campaign at home to Bolton tomorrow, said: "I had quite a few offers, from more established Premier League clubs than QPR, but I just felt this was the club I wanted to join.

"I went to the manager's house and had a long talk with him. He told me the way he wanted me to play and it felt right to me, it matched up with what I wanted as well.

"He convinced me this was the right club and told me there was no reason, if I did well, why I couldn't get back in the England squad. It's good to have someone who believes in you. Dave Jones was like that at Cardiff and Neil is the same at Rangers.

"I want to get back in the England squad. People say I'm a one-cap wonder but I don't want to end up as one. I love playing for my country, it's such a huge privilege and thrill and I want more of it.

"There are some great players in my position, like Andy Carroll, Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe and Darren Bent, but I believe in my ability.

"I think I can win more caps. This season is such a big one for everyone, with the Euros coming up.

"Playing well for QPR is my immediate priority, but if I am involved with England again, that means I have done well at club level, so it will be a huge bonus."
