Boss Rodgers bemoans two dropped Swansea points

Title challengers Swansea failed to capitalise on leaders QPR losing after being held 1-1 at home to Watford. The result leaves Swansea night seven points away from Rangers at the top, but boss Brendan Rodgers was disappointed with what might have been.

He said: "This is the most disappointed I've been since I came to the club. It's definitely two points dropped.

"We controlled and dominated the game particularly in the first half.

"For the majority of the game we played really well but we were defensively very poor for the goal. We didn't do our job right and we conceded a goal.

"It's very surprising considering how well we normally defend as a team. I stressed to the players at half-time that the game was not over at 1-0 and also that we needed to get tighter around the box.

"It's a game we should have seen out but we switched off and gave away a goal. It surprised me that we lost concentration because the man we left free in the box (Graham) is the highest goal scorer in the league.

"We got punished and we ended up just getting a point when we should have had three. Hopefully this is a lesson for us."

Watford counterpart Malky Mackay felt it was a point well earned.

"I watched Swansea destroy a very good Leeds team last week so I knew it was a very tough place for us to come to," he said.

"So to see the way we performed in the second half was pleasing. It was a good point for us.

"I did think we could achieve the result because even when Swansea had a lot of possession in the first half we still tested their goalkeeper two or three times.

"I told the players at half-time that they needed to show a bit more belief and I felt we were certainly worthy of a point.

"I thought we passed the ball well and I was pleased with the goal we scored.

"We put a lot of work in tactically and I have to praise my staff for that. The players absorbed the information well and the gameplan worked in the second half to get the result."
