Borussia Dortmund have rejected an opening bid from Manchester United for Mats Hummels.

The Daily Star says according to Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari, the Red Devils submitted an offer for the World Cup winner yesterday evening.

But reports have suggested the Premier League giants have had their approach for 25-year-old knocked back.

Several publications in Germany have claimed United boss Louis van Gaal has had a £35m bid for the former Bayern Munich defender rejected by Dortmund officials.
