Borussia Dortmund should be confident going to St. James' Park to take on Newcastle United in the Champions League.

That is the view of midfielder Emre Can, who can also fill in at center half.

The experienced anchorman outlined how they can avoid the fate of PSG, who lost 4-1 at Newcastle earlier in the group stages.

Can said to reporters ahead of the game: "If you look at the development of the team the Bundesliga has been very positive.

“But there are other challenges for us in terms of the opponent - so Newcastle is a test of our development.

"We will see how we've progressed.

"When we were away from home it will always be a challenge, it's the same at Bochum and Freiburg, we are looking to put things right."

Former Liverpool star Can added: "It's a chance to show what we can do. Away from home we have not always performed to our best, I am not sure why that was last season.

"At Newcastle it gives us that chance to change things. In the Bundesliga we have been doing well. We have confidence and we approach Newcastle looking to win. And of course - we need the points."
