Bolton Wanderers will be standing by Fabrice Muamba.
Muamba has started a miracle fightback in hospital - but a huge question mark hangs over his career.
He has two more years on his contract at the Reebok, but Wanderers feel they have a 'duty of care' to look after him until then and beyond.
Club doctor Jonathan Tobin said: "I think the over-excited talk of Fabrice returning to football is irrelevant.
"He's still in the ICU and unaware of anything that has been said about him. He doesn't know the implications this has had on the whole planet.
"This is the first step in a long, long road. But this is a family club and we look after our own. Of course, we'll stand by him."
