Boca Juniors pondering MLS project

Argentine powerhouse Boca Juniors are considering starting another franchise to play in America's MLS.

Ojogo.pt reports that Boca want to begin an ambitious project which would see them deploy a team into North America which would carry the colours and logo already used in the Argentine Primera Division, much like Mexican outfit Chivas Guadalajara did when they created Chivas USA, who are based in Los Angeles.

There are also plans to take a Boca team to Europe and push for the UEFA Champions League but for now a much more likely option would be MLS.

MLS Commissioner Don Garber has already said that an expansion franchise does not necessarily have to start from scratch or be within the US to begin with.

"Whether it's an existing team or an expansion team is irrelevant to me," Garber said in an interview with The Associated Press. "But I would see over the next number of years us continuing our connection with international football clubs, and having it go beyond representing them in the United States for brand development and fan opportunities."
