Blackburn winger Doran: I turned down Celtic

Inverness Caley midfielder Aaron Doran admits he turned down a move to Celtic.

Celtic were the on-loan Blackburn Rovers winger's boyhood heroes while growing up in Dublin but he was always intent on starring in England.

That is why Tommy Burns' best efforts were not enough to tempt him to Paradise despite an impressive trial as he chose Rovers instead.

He said: "I've supported Celtic all my life and all my family do too, so this would be a huge game for me to play in.

"I suffered a wee groin injury against Dundee United but I've been working hard with the physio, so fingers crossed. Before I signed for Blackburn I went on trial with Celtic and could have signed for them.

"I really wanted to play in England but Celtic would have been my second choice. I'm quite happy I chose Blackburn - there's no regret.

"It was a big deal for me to make my Blackburn debut away to Liverpool.

"There were 40,000 fans but we got beaten 4-0 - Fernando Torres scored that wonderful volley over his shoulder.

"I got on in the second half but they had all of the play. I was up against Emiliano Insua but didn't really get the ball much.

"I was also involved in games against Chelsea and Manchester City - really big games for me.

"But this is going to be on a par with these matches. We want to get through to the semi-final of this cup so it's huge."
