Blackburn Rovers signing Johann Vogel has revealed he came close to signing for Manchester United.

The Swiss midfielder was playing for AC Milan back in early 2006 when Alex Ferguson came calling.

Vogel, 31, who could play for Rovers against Wigan today. recalled: "I was very excited but Milan didn't want me to go.

"I've always wanted to play in England and I'm happy I've got that chance at Blackburn."
