Blackburn's Dundee Utd loanee Goodwillie to 'vigorously defend' rape allegations

Denise Clair has taken civil action against David Goodwillie for damages relating to an alleged incident in January 2011.

The 27-year old mother was allegedly raped by Blackburn Rovers striker Goodwillie, who is on loan at former club Dundee United, after the pair met on a night out more than two years ago.

Goodwillie was cleared of the initial charges by the Crown Office five months after the incident but now Ms Clair is stepping up the fight to find out exactly what happened on the night that she remembers 'virtually nothing'.

"I've spent three years in the shadows being a target for people who don't know me. I've decided enough is enough," Ms Clair said.

"I'm determined to see the evidence myself and will deal with it no matter what it reveals.

"I'm waiving anonymity because I want people to know I'm an ordinary mum from an ordinary family.

"I want to know why the criminal justice system did not proceed with the case."

Her lawyer, Cameron Fyfe of Drummond Miller, said: "We have a team of experts standing by to examine everything, including the dress Denise was wearing that night."

David Goodwillie's lawyer, Liam O'Donnell, said: "David will vigorously defend any court action."
