Blackburn boss Ince: Ex-Man Utd player will succeed Ferguson

New Blackburn Rovers boss Paul Ince believes a former Manchester United player will succeed Sir Alex Ferguson as manager at Old Trafford.

While Ince was careful to keep his name out of the frame to eventually take the United reins from Fergie, he reckons his old club will opt for someone who has been grounded in life at Old Trafford.

Ince said: "I think United will keep any managerial appointment in-house if and when Sir Alex decides to call it a day. He has said that he is probably a couple of years away from retirement, so there's no reason why the likes of Brucey, Sparky or Keano can't take over from him then.

"We will have to see what happens, but if United look for continuity - like I think they will - then I can see them going for someone who worked under Fergie and who knows all about the club. I don't know why so many former United players have gone into management. There's also Bryan Robson and Gordon Strachan. Even Fergie's son, Darren, has had success at Peterborough.

"But Sir Alex is the yardstick that we all measure ourselves against and I am really looking forward to doing battle with him and all the other top managers in the Premier League.

"I got one over on Darren Ferguson when we edged out Peterborough for the League Two championship and now I am faced with his old man! I can't get rid of the Fergusons!"
