Birmingham City's new scout Paul Montgomery is regarded highly on the continent.

The Birmingham Mail says Montgomery has been European scout for West Ham United and helped Brum boss Alex McLeish at Rangers.

Barcelona were so impressed with his work that they once offered him a position.

"For a while Paul did a bit of work for me at Rangers, European stuff, at a time when the club were restructuring," said McLeish.

"He is very highly thought of and he has an excellent knowledge."
