Birmingham City's owners insist the club's financial future is secure.
Parent company Birmingham International Holdings Limited (BIHL) voluntarily entered into receivership in what the Championship club called a "necessary" yet "unusual course of action".
The move is aimed at taking on Peter Pannu, who has been at loggerheads with other directors in the scrap for control of BIHL in recent months.
A club statement read: "With no apparent resolution to the fractious and inharmonious relations within the management, the majority on the BIHL Board decided that it had no other option but to openly and voluntarily request reputable receivers to take over the management of BIHL on its behalf."
The Football League have requested a meeting with the club and the receivers as soon as possible.
