Birmingham chairman regrets losing Upson to West Ham

Birmingham City chairman David Gold admits he regrets losing Matthew Upson to West Ham United.

"I don't feel anger, just disappointment that he went because he is a great player," said Gold. "That is proven by the fact he is back in the England squad and played the other night against Switzerland.

"It was just disappointing we couldn't hang on to Upson. I don't hold any animosity towards him. He was a good player and he is a proper gentleman. We got good money for him in the end."
