After defeat to Wigan Athletic, Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish had no complaints over the dismissal of Damien Johnson.
Ryan Taylor's double was more than enough to secure all three points against the woeful visitors, who self-destructed at the JJB Stadium.
McLeish had few complaints with Johnson's red card.
He said: "The lunge has been outlawed in the game. More and more referees are now showing a red card, regardless of contact or not.
"Every referee has got to now do that. As long as referees do it every time that kind of challenge goes in. Damien, I don't think touched the guy. Kilbane got up very quickly.
"When you lunge and you bare your teeth, ie show the studs, it can be difficult for the referee not to give a red card."
McLeish admitted his side were up against it after Johnson's expulsion.
"It was tough playing with 10 men for such a long time," he said. "It's hard enough for us when we're playing with 11 men."
He added: "Experience, strength, pace, were marked differences today."
