Billy Jones is determined to become Sunderland's first-choice right-back.
The 27-year-old is hoping to nail down the right-back position.
The former Crewe and Preston man told the Evening Chronicle: "It is a chance for me to establish myself at right-back - that is the objective for me.
"I can play on both sides.. I have played at left-back for Preston and I have also played there in the Premier League - I made my debut for West Brom on the left.
"I do see my best position as right-back but, if needs must, I have no problem filling in on the left.
"I know the club are working hard to add more strength in depth, as every Premier League team is, so there will be competition for places.
"Hopefully, to start with, the right-back shirt will be mine to lose."
