Sheffield Wednesday boss Steve Bruce can count on the support of the staff at Newcastle United should they make the move.

Newcastle remain locked in talks with Sheffield Wednesday in order to try and strike a compensation deal to take Bruce to the North East.

Ameobi, who was recently appointed as Newcastle United's Loan Coordinator, also believes Bruce can take the Magpies forward.

"If it is Steve, he has been a manager for a long time obviously he has got a good pedigree," the former United forward told Sky Sports.

“Being a Geordie is just the cherry on top.

“Ultimately whoever is hopefully coming in will do the best job, Rafa left on the back of two good results in the league and hopefully the new manager can take us forward."
